Transport Logistics Manager

Full Time 42.5 hours a week (approx 7.30am - 5.00pm )

Are you from a logistics / transport background with good leadership and people management experience, looking to join a leading North East long established family business?

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To operate and build the customer base and revenue for the Dedicated Transport vehicles drivers and loads, efficiently

  • To develop and maintain strong customer focus and relationships.

  • To Line Manage all drivers (currently 30), identify training needs, proactively building a positive team and where necessary be able to resolve effectively any staff issues that may arise

  • To understand, manage and adhere to all legal requirements with drivers for tachograph and working hours

  • To understand Operators License & FORS requirements and standards whilst working alongside other team members proactively to ensure you have operational procedures that are robust and in place to ensure we operate  legally compliant at all times.

  • Strong health & safety ethics to ensure all staff under your management follow these and proactively look for safe solutions to update as necessary.

  • To manage the company vehicles, trailers and plant necessary for the drivers to carry out their duties.

  • To work alongside the maintenance company ensuring our vehicles legally comply at all times

  • To ensure drivers complete their vehicle safety checks correctly

  • To be able to create, record and monitor KPIs for your own department utilising various operational systems (telematics, transport IT systems) and be proactive to change and adaptations from the results

  • Work with other departments within the Operations team ensuring customer expectations are met, covering roles where necessary and taking overall responsibility for decisions when required.

 

To be successful in the position of Logistics Manager, you will possess the following skills and experience;

 

  • Experience and proven track record working in overnight pallet distribution and dedicated transport operations

  • Commercially astute to look for new opportunities to grow the dedicated transport and be proactive to growth across the department

  • Previous evidence of how you have driven operational decisions and improved the department to run more efficiently and effectively

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines

  • Experience of manging drivers and working alongside operations teams with evidence of how you motivate and handle issues within them.

  • Have your CPC Certificate or can demonstrate evidence of your in depth transport knowledge, know the regulations, drivers hours and  FORS requirements

  • Experience handling customers and focused on solutions for their needs

  • Understand the importance of KPIs how to set up,  monitor own performance and be proactive to improve where possible

  • Demonstrate your knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and ensuring these are followed through

  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365 and use of transport/ warehouse management systems

  • You have strong planning and organisational skills

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with colleagues, customers, drivers and directors

  • Self-motivated with a desire for continuous improvement

 

Preferable but not essential;

  • HGV licence

  • Forklift licence
